The process applied in an aesthetic nose surgery is to alter the cartilage and bone structure of the nose to give it a new form and appearance.
Your nose could be contracted or enlargened, tip of the nose could be lifted or nose vault could be eliminated, width of your nostrils could be narrowed through an aesthetic surgery. At the same time, deformations due to birth or injury could be eliminated or some problems with your inhalation could be removed.
At the first meeting, your physician will ask you what parts of your nose you want to be corrected; examine your nose and face structure and explain the possibilities. The structure of your nose cartilages and bones, your face, thickness of nose skin, your age and expectations are the fundamental factors that establish the plan for surgery. Your surgeon will give you detailed information on anesthesia (general or local) and surgical technique, surgical risks and complications, total cost of treatment.
It’s essential to ask all your questions and make clear your expectations during this first meeting.
Rhinoplasty generally takes one – two hour(s). Depending on the existing problem in bone – cartiladge structure and nose skin, required amendments are made on the basis of requests of the patient. Aesthetic nose surgeries are made with two techniques named as open or closed technique. In the closed technique, no visible spot is left on the external surface of the nose. Whereas in the open technique, there remains a scar in the area (kolumella) between two nostrils immediately below the tip of nose. This scar becomes very indefinite in time. The advantage of the open technique is that it increases the view and freedom of action of the surgeon.
When the surgery is completed an atel to support the new form of nose will be applied. Buffers could be applied inside the nose. These buffers are removed within two days maximum.
For 24 hours following your surgery, you might have complaints like swelling on face, empurpling around eyes, pain in the nose. You may overcome this problematic period more easily by taking analgesic pills, lying with your head in upright position (for instance with 2-3 pillows), applying cold around the eye. A large portion of swelling and empurpling will disappear within one week – ten days. Then atel is removed on day 7th.
Most of the patients who undergo rhinoplasty surgery can stand up and walk around on the day after surgery and can get back to school or non-tiresome work life.
The complete recovery period may take 20 days. Your physician will invite you to frequent checks to monitor your condition.
