The surgery is made with general anaesthesia under hospital conditions. It takes 1 hour. It leaves scar depending on the area opened to protect the prosthesis. The lower curve of breast, armpit, nipple sides could be followed. Prosthesis could be placed behind the nipple tissue or behind the breast muscle. Each application has its advantages and disadvantages. These details should be assessed before surgery.
You may return home at least 6 hours after the surgery but most patients prefer spending the first night at the hospital.
The post-surgery period is generally comfortable. Pain is minimal. If the prosthesis is placed behind the breast muscle, there might be limitations in arm movements for a few days. Brassiere-like wraps are applied on breasts. Dressing is opened 2 days later to check the wound. Wraps are opened 7 days later. Stitches are removed 7-10 days later. The patient is made to wear sportswoman brassiere for 6 weeks and is proposed to have massage. There might be swallowing in early times and there might be absence of senses at nipples and purple-like colour alteration on the skin. They will go away in a short time. The patient may get to work in 3-4 days and is proposed to refrain from heavy sports for two months.
For a woman who has undergone breast enlargement surgery with silicon breast prosthesis, there is no limitations for getting pregnant and nursing.
