Aesthetic Eye Lid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

What is aesthetic eye lid surgery?

There might be flabbiness on upper and lower eye lids and puffiness particularly on lower eye lids as a result of ageing and gravity. Besides causing disorder in appearance, eye-sight can also be hindered via closure of eye with upper eye lids. With an aesthetic eyelid surgery, excessive skin and ruptured adipose tissue are eliminated from the skin, therefore a good appearance is obtained and the person is enabled to see comfortably. There remains a scar along lid on the upper eye lid. However this mark can only be seen if looked very closely as it will fit on the lid twist. Whereas on the lower lid, there remains a scar just below the eyelashes. On the continuing side of the mark, there is a normal skin line.

Who are suitable for this surgery?

Generally people above the age of 30 who have initial signs of flabbiness and puffiness on upper and lower eyelids but with no other health problem are suitable for this surgery.

Surgery

The surgery is performed in an operating room under supervision of an anaesthesiologist in hospital conditions. Local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation is preferred as a method. Depending on current complaints of the patient, surgery can be performed solely on the upper or lower lids or on both lower and upper lids at the same time. The surgery takes 1-1,5 hour in average.

Post surgery period

The period immediately after the surgery is comfortable. There might be puffiness and empurpling around the eye. There might be dryness, feel of burnt, visual cloudiness on eyes. Tears may increase, eyes could get disturbed from light for some time. The patient may have difficulty in closing his eyes fully in the first few days. These are the things expected but those will go away during the first week. Stitches are removed 3-5 days later.
